Put your best foot forward

I have been reading a lot lately about body language.  Most people say exactly how they are feeling with their feet and they don’t even realize it.  If you are in the middle of an uncomfortable conversation, you will likely cross your leg opposite the person you are talking to.  Yes, there are many variables.  If you have hemorrhoids, you might just be unconformable in general.  On the other hand, this morning i was talking to someone face to face and from their waist up, they were totally into the conversation with their feet pointing towards me.  After a few minutes, their one foot started pointing to the door.  When i asked her if she had to go, she said yes. She didn’t want to interrupt the conversation because she said she was having such a good laugh, but she had to pick up her son and she didn’t want to be late.  It was a small cue, but i got it and she was very grateful to leave without being rude.  Before she left, she asked to schedule coffee later this week to finish the talk.

So this is what happened next, along the same lines.  I got a few very important work calls and got stressed very quickly.  (which if you know me does not happen often)  So I walked into my back yard and forced myself to put my feet and legs up on a chair.  My thought was this.  If the legs can really tell what you are thinking and feeling, maybe I can make my legs tell my brain what to think.  Only when you are comfortable and relaxed do you put your legs up.  This means you feel, at least for the time being, you will not need your legs to escape from where you are and therefore you can remove them from the floor.  So I sat there for 5 minutes and wouldn’t you know it, I felt much better much quicker then how it usually feels sitting there with my feet down.  Interesting uh? What are your thoughts?

Autism Early Warning Signs

Everyone knows someone who is connected to Autism.

If you child exhibits some or all of the following symtoms, have it checked out now. This is something that needs treatment now. This is NOT: Let’s wait and see what happens.

Poor eye contact.

This is a red flag because babies learn by engaging with others.

Limited exploration of objects around them.

We want to see they are interested in the world around them.

Delayed babbling.

At 6 months babies typically make a variety of sounds like ba, ma, and da.

Resists Cuddling.

If a baby does resist affection, that’s something to monitor.

Low muscle tone.

Watch for difficulty sitting independently after 6 months of age and head lagging. While in a lying position, you should gently pull them to a sitting position, see if their head lags or lolls behind when they are being raised up.

Weak fine motor skills when picking up small objects with fingers.

Up to 20% of younger children have Autism they have an older sibling with Autism.

Most doctors are still waiting to screen a child at 18 months. This is too late for some.  Children should start being screened at 6 months.

The brain is most malleable in the first years of life and treatment needs to start asap.

Smiling shows a baby is responsive and social.

have a happy and healthy day.

Hi Everyone,

I have been getting a lot of questions about the new CPR called CCC, Continuous Cardiac Compression.  At long last, a REAL video of the NEW CPR. take a look. this is excellent.

And of course comment on what you think.  Would you do CPR now that there is no mouth to mouth?

Have a safe day.

Sun, Sand and Ouch!

I know the sun and sand are great. but did you ever think of all the stuff in sand. I mean, really now. think of everything anybody could possibly bring to the beach, or for that matter, could dump in the drain. then it flows down to the ocean, then washes up on the beach. i was thinking about this the other day watching the beautiful water coming and going on the shore. beautiful on top and yuck on the bottom. know anything else like that. I’m sure you do. OK, so what does this have to do with first aid/ CPR. nothing. but it has to do with your health. just because the top or outside of you looks great, doesn’t mean everything is fine inside. so remember to get regular check ups, get your teeth cleaned, get your colon scoped. and all the other fun stuff you are supposed to do to keep your body in good shape. hey, maybe go to the beach for a run. just wash your feet real well when you are done!

Michael says bob, i say duck…wt..

Sometimes life goes by without even noticing the small stuff. We are garage saling (sailing) this morning. That means driving the garage sale route which is known to have good stuff for pennies!  And i have the boys in the car (17 and 18 years old).  We pass the street, BOB. So, Michael says “bob” and faster then that,  i say “duck”. he looks at me like I’m on drugs (nothing knew in my house, no, not the drugs, but the looks!)  he says it again and so do i.  I can’t figure out why he doesn’t get it.  Then i realize like most of the world who grew up with linear thinking, he isn’t privy to the inner workings of my mind. So i explain.  You said “BOB”, which in a boxing term means to avoid the punch by moving up and down.  So i said “duck” Which in a boxing term means DUCK before you get hit!

Ok, so what is not to understand….

Tip of the Day.  If it is coming at you too fast to think, bob, or duck, whichever gets you out of harms way faster.  If not, there are always ice packs!
